The use and making of cloth is enormously important to all humanity and is intimately tied to the cultural identity of a people. Peru had one of the oldest textile traditions in the world.

So many of the world’s indigenous peoples have been lost, yet here in the Andes of Peru, the descendants of the Inca still live much as they did centuries ago. This cultural continuity offers us a unique opportunity to study history, as it lives and breathes today.

On this tour, you will visit various indigenous communities and learn about ancient methods of weaving with the back-strap loom, natural dying processes, raising fiber producing animals, and hand-spinning wool.

You will be accompanied by staff members of the NGO Threads of Peru, who act as guides for your trip, and can provide greater insight and an added perspective on all that you will discover.

Threads of Peru aims to create an authentic and comfortable travel experience. You will be in the company of like minded travelers who wish to immerse themselves in the world of Andean textiles. Our maximum group size is 10 people, unless a special request for a private tour is arranged.
