Scarfs & Shawls
Scarfs (or chalinas) and shawls are not part of traditional Andean dress. Most women of the indigenous communities keep warm with their llicllas. However, the rectangular form of the scarf, and its popularity in other cultures, have made it a commonly produced item on the looms of Andean weavers. In fact, the simple form allow weavers to showcase their artistic flair in color and pattern with a smaller investment of time. Therefore, some of the most beautiful examples of traditional Andean weaving today appear on scarfs and shawls. Scarfs and shawls vary greatly in terms of width and length. They are usually made of alpaca, but we offer some woven from wool as well.
